Over the last couple of weeks we’ve been taking a look a new range of hunting kit entering the UK market from NocPix, this time round we’re looking at Lumi Thermal Spotters.
We’ve been lucky enough to get our hands on them ahead of the official UK launch, the boys have been out deer stalking and foxing with them on the west coast of Scotland, so without further ado lets get into it.
Whats in the Lumi Range?
So the NoxPix Lumi spotters come in a range of different specs and prices, these are as follows:
- LUMI P13
- LUMI L19
- LUMI L35
- LUMI H35
NocPix LUMI L19 Review:
First on the list is the Lumi L19 handheld spotter. This little baby weighs just 330 grams, making it super easy to carry on all your trips. It even comes with a handy leather pouch that has a magnetic closure and its got a nice mounting point of the spotter itself if you want to attached a lanyard or strap to wear it around your neck.
What are the features that stood out to us?
Before we took it into the field there we’re a few things that we liked right away.
Silent Touch Buttons
The top features simple buttons, including a power button and an up arrow for zooming (with a smooth range of 4x to 16x magnification).
Color Palettes Galore
Cycle through various modes like black heart, white heart, rainbow, ultraviolet, crimson, and green thermal mode (I liked this one!)
19mm Focusable Lens
The L19 is equipped with a focusable 19mm f/n lens, delivering crisp, clear images of whatever you’re tracking. This worked really well, easy even with a gloved hand.
Packed with Technology
This spotter isn’t just lightweight; it also boasts a 384 x 288 sensor, 12um detector, sub 18mK NETD and an AI image sharpening algorithm that kicks image noise to the curb. You get a sharp, defined view of heat sources, which is a game changer when you’re out in the field. The software improvements do seem to make a big difference to the image quality, especially if the conditions are rougher.
Battery Life That Lasts
The L19 runs on removable and rechargeable 18650 batteries, giving you up to 6 hours of use each, or 12 hours with two batteries! We’ve put this baby through its paces, and I can vouch for its battery life— I’ve always got a few spares rattling around in my pack, but haven’t needed them with this spotter yet.
Comfortable Viewing
The L19 also features a 10mm exit eyepiece that’s focusable. To get the best view, cover the front lens and adjust the eyepiece to your eye. This ensures you’ll always be ready to spot your quarry accurately.
Pricing and What to Expect
The L19 is under £900. With the P13 a lot less if you’re on a budget and the other two higher end models coming in a but higher. We’ve dropped the links for you below so check them out, or even better give us a shout and we’ll talk them over with you.
Real world performance:
We’ll get some footage on the socials soon so you can see the real life performance , but for a spotter under £900 it was rock solid, we were positively identifying deer, foxes over 300 yards in some typical Scottish weather, so not bad at all! As always, a longer test under different weather conditions is needed to really get a balanced view of this spotters capabilities but in comparison so similar units we've used, in this price range and spec, I'd say you need to be considering this wee unit.
Our conclusions:
The NocPix Lumi L19 is a compact, powerful little spotter that’s a great option for hunters on a budget. It’s lightweight, packed with features, and built to enhance your experience in the field. Obviously its not going to compare to spotters with larger sensors and objective lenses, but, in this price range of the market it’s a great bit of kit and a great choice.
