Field Testing the NocPix Vista Thermal Spotter

Field Testing the NocPix Vista Thermal Spotter

For those of you who’ve been following us, you’ll know we’ve been working with InfiRay Technologies for quite some time now with our very own Chris Dalton who’s been their UK ambassador.
We’ve tested their top-tier equipment and used it in the field, but we were really excited to learn about NocPix and lucky to be able to get our hands on some of their new kit, thermal scopes, spotters and monocular ahead of their UK launch.

Here's a bit of the blurb about who NocPix's are, have a quick read and then we'll get into the test below.
InfiRay has launched a new company, NocPix, that’s designed specifically for us hunters. The name "NocPix” (short for nocturnal pixels) is all about leveraging the best thermal technology for use in the field, especially for those of us who rely on it as a tool in real-world hunting situations. They’ve tailored this range with hunters in mind, using feedback from hunters to refine their technology and bring cutting-edge tech to our community.
The goal? To provide us with the most effective tools possible in the field—and of course, we’re here to test them out and report back to you, so here we go.

Getting to grips with the kit:

We’ve got to play with three exciting new products from the NocPix range, these are:

  1. The Ace Thermal Rifle Scope– A feature-packed scope.
  2. The Vista Thermal Spotter/Monocular– A powerful handheld spotter.
  3. The Lumi Thermal Spotter/Monocular – A compact handheld spotter for easy portability.

We have reviews coming for the NocPix Ace Thermal Scopes and the Lumi range, but right now we’re looking at the Vista H50R thermal spotter:
This is the top-of-the-line spotter in a series of spotters that include:

  • VISTA H35
  • VISTA H35R (With LRF)
  • VISTA H50
  • VISTA H50R (With LRF)

These cover a range of specs and prices and you can find the details of these in the links below.

Unboxing the Vista H50R: First Impressions

From the moment we unboxed the Vista H50R, we could tell it’s built to last. The packaging is sturdy, and everything inside is organized neatly. In the box, you get:
  • A quick-start guide
  • The Vista unit, packed in a sleek black carrying case
  • Essential accessories like a strap, cleaning cloth, spare battery, and charging cable

The unit itself feels robust and ergonomic, with a solid weight that suggests it’s ready for some serious use in the field, like you guys we need this stuff to last, especially if you’re investing serious money in them.

Vista H50R: Breaking Down the Tech Specs

Now, let’s talk about the specs, the tech inside this device.

Here’s what makes the Vista H50R stand out:

  • High-Resolution Sensor: 640x512 resolution with a 12-micron sensor for crisp, clear thermal images.
  • Sub-15 mK NETD (Noise Equivalent Temperature Difference): This level of sensitivity is superb in a thermal scope and really enhances image quality.
  • Lens: The 50mm objective lens with an F0.9 aperture ensures you get detailed, high-quality visuals.
  • Magnification: With a 4x to 40x zoom, this spotter is incredibly versatile for a range of distances.
  • Color Palettes: There are seven different palettes available, including the usual White Hot and Black Hot, as well as some lesser-known ones like Crimson, Violet, and Viridian. These additional options help reduce eye strain, which is a big deal when you're out in the field for hours at a time.

Key Features You’ll Love

Weighing 650 grams, the Vista H50R is a bit heavier than some models, but there's a good reason for that: it has a built-in rangefinder that works up to 1,200 meters. This is a real game-changer when you’re trying to identify and track animals from a distance. You can quickly find your target, identify it, and know the exact distance, all in one smooth motion. This we like!

The display is another standout feature. The 2560x2560 AMOLED screen offers a circular view, which is a huge improvement over the older, square displays we’ve seen in the past. It feels a lot like looking through a rifle scope, making it a much more natural experience when aiming or scanning the landscape.

On long days hunting, I’ve personally experienced  bit of eye fatigue after long sessions with other thermals, especially during those last 20–30 minutes of daylight. With the Vista H50R, those extra color palettes and the round display seemed to help that.

Built-in Laser Rangefinder

One of the standout features of the H50R is its integrated laser rangefinder. Gauging distance at night can be tricky, so having this capability adds an extra layer of confidence. You can easily determine how far away your target is, ensuring you’re well-prepared when it’s time to take the shot. We find this is really useful on the open hill where the there’s limited points of reference or when we’re guiding newbies that need that extra reassurance of range.

Convenient Battery System

The H50R is equipped with replaceable battery packs similar to those found in previous Infiray models. The 4400 mAh battery is user-friendly—simply slide it forward to access the battery compartment, pull out the old battery, replace it, and you’re good to go. Each unit comes with two batteries and a USB-C charging cable, offering an impressive battery life of around 11 hours per charge. This is more than enough for a night out in the field, and you could likely go for two to three nights on one battery without any issues.

User-Friendly Design

This spotter is designed with user experience in mind. It features silent buttons for ease of use, allowing you to power on the device and adjust the zoom without making noise. While the field of view is narrower, the magnification makes it ideal for spotting game from 150 yards and beyond. For those closer encounters, it may be a bit challenging, but the clarity and detail it offers are worth it.

Ergonomics and Portability

The H50R is lightweight and ergonomic, making it comfortable to hold for extended periods. It includes multiple mounting points for attaching a neck strap or lanyard, ensuring you can keep it secure while you’re on the move. Plus, it comes with a protective carry case, so you can transport it with ease.

Whats our conclusion? Yes please!

We’ve only had this kit a short amount of time but the first impressions is that this is a real step change to the previous products we’ve looked at. The proof of the pudding will be how it performs over time and in the worst conditions the UK can throw at it but yes this is a seriously good bit of kit! I’m not sure NocPix are going to get this back off me!

Thanks for reading our review of the NoxPix Vista 50H R stay tuned to our social media for more content, we'll upload some live footage from the spotter and thoughts on performance as the weather turns over the winter during our long term test.
