Hawke Endurance 30WA: A Capable Scope For Stalking
When it comes to recommending scope for deer stalker, especially woodland stalking I’m a fan of keeping things simple, the less faffing the better.
So when we got hold of the Hawke Endurance 30WA 3-12 x56, I thought, lets give it a go and see how it stacks up!
What magnification is high enough?
Though there’s a trend among hunters to go for high-magnification optics, it’s worth considering the actual magnification level you tend to use. While more power allows you to zoom in on distant targets, it can reduce light transmission and increase wobble, which makes it harder to keep the reticle steady. In close quarters woodland stalking I’ll rarely crank my scope up past 8x since the lower power gives better clarity and brighter performance, especially in low-light situations at dawn or dusk.
High-Quality Glass and Durable Build
The Endurance scope comes well-equipped with bikini lens covers, and a CR2032 battery for illumination.
It has a mono-body 30mm tube that offers ample mounting space. Hawke employs high-grade, low-dispersion Crown Glass and 18-layer, fully multi-coated lenses, delivering strong light transmission and clarity from dawn to dusk. It shows, these are very decent lenses.
This model also has a spacious eye box, fast-focus system, and a high-torque magnification ring that’s easy to grip. With nitrogen purging and Hawke’s no-fault lifetime warranty, it’s built to withstand shock, water, and fog.
Should the worst happen, Hawkes UK service centre provides exceptional service, they’re really good.
The 56mm objective lens has some impressive light gathering capabilities, important in woodland stalking even outside of first and last light.
Efficient Illumination and Control
Located on the left side of the scope’s saddle, the illumination dial offers six brightness levels, each with an individual off-click in between settings. This makes it easy to set a preferred level, turn off the illumination, and quickly turn it back on when needed. The battery compartment, housing a CR2032 cell, is neatly capped on the exterior for easy access.
Set-It-and-Forget-It Turrets
The turrets on the Endurance scope are capped, reflecting a set-and-forget approach to elevation and windage adjustments. Each turret offers 1/4 MOA clicks and can be reset to zero using a slotted screw on top. With a substantial 180 MOA of adjustment for both elevation and windage (15 MOA per turn and 13 full turns in total), the scope provides plenty of leeway for any shooting scenario.
Practical, Balanced Design
The illumination settings, though few, offer ample flexibility for different lighting conditions. The L4A DOT reticle is simple yet effective, I really liked it. No clutter, it just works well.
The finer crosshairs offer a clear aiming point and are illuminated at the center dot, enhancing visibility in low light.
Built for the reality of hunting
In practice, the Endurance scope performs with excellence. Its large magnification ring allows for quick adjustments, even in a cold gloved hand and with an large eye relief, it can handle the larger rifles.
Final Thoughts
It may not have all the bells and whistles of other scopes but let me tell you, if your in the market for a highly effective scope for deer stalking and other game, the Hawke Endurance WA 3-12 x56 is a cracking choice.
In fact, we’ve put one onto our estate rifles so our guest can use it.. for the money, its that good.
