When setting up a rifle, many shooters focus intensely on selecting the right firearm, calibre, and scope, often overlooking one crucial component: the scope mount. While it's easy to settle for the mounts that come with your scopes/rifles, we believe that a solid scope mount is one of the most vital parts of any rifle setup. Without a reliable connection between your rifle and scope, even the best equipment can fall short, and you can bet it happens on that shot of a lifetime!

The Case for Rock-Solid Scope Mounts
Maintaining zero in all weather conditions is critical, and a stable scope mount is essential to achieve this. Equally important is ensuring the correct height for proper eye alignment. We use a few scope mount brands on our rifles, but we’ve used Tier One products for years, and they’ve never let us down. Their mounts, rings, and MOA rails are reliable, well-made, and offer excellent performance, and importantly, give you confidence when you’re lining up a shot.
Scope Mount Options from Tier One
Tier One offers a wide range of mounts, catering to different needs. They manufacture mounts for 11mm and 17mm rails, Picatinny rails, TAC ring sets and cantilever mounts. Their range also includes mono-mounts and Blaser-specific designs.
For my deer stalking setup I use a set of 34mm ring mounts, precision-engineered on a 5-axis CNC machine to ensure maximum accuracy and minimal operation resets.
Each ring is crafted from 7075T6 aluminum, lightweight and incredible durability. Available in various sizes—30mm, 34mm, 35mm, and 36mm—the mounts are priced reasonably, offering excellent value given their quality engineering.
Clever Design and Attention to Detail
The 34mm medium set are mounted onto my Ruger 77. These mounts not only look great but also feature thoughtful design elements. For instance, the inner clamp surface is recessed where the top and bottom halves meet, preventing the scope body tube from being pinched when tightened. Each mount set comes in a plastic case, complete with torque head drivers for the top rings and clamp screws.
The mounts have a hard anodised 30-micron finish, which is semi-gloss and highly scratch-resistant. One feature I particularly appreciate is the flat and square alignment of the mounts, thanks to the evenly clamping dovetail section. This ensures a perfect reticle-to-bore axis alignment. Additionally, the rear mount comes with an inset level bubble, allowing you to quickly correct any rifle canting and ensuring the reticle is horizontal within the field of view.
Its little features like this, executed well, show the thought and understanding that goes into the design and build of this stuff.
Versatility with Picatinny Mounts
Tier one do a range of mounts specifically designed for Picatinny rails, made to the same high standards as the others and available in a range of scope body sizes (25.4mm to 40mm).
These mounts offer flexibility, with options for medium, high, or extra-high configurations. They include reducer rings, allowing you to fit a 1” body tubed scope into 30mm mounts, further enhancing their versatility.
These mounts, like the others, feature the level bubble and fit securely on the Picatinny rail. The 30mm high versions measure 30mm from the rail to the centre of the ring, with other heights available depending on ring size.
Locked-In and solid - High Quality Rails
Tier One mounts also feature an integral recoil lug that’s part of the mount base, eliminating the risk of losing it—unlike some other mounts. This design fits snugly into the corresponding Picatinny rail rebate. Tier One’s one-piece Picatinny rails are made from the same durable 775T6 aluminum as the mounts and exceed Mil Spec 1913 Picatinny standards. Available in 0 MOA or 20 MOA tilt options, these rails cater to a wide range of actions, from Anschutz rimfires to bench rest actions, and more. The rails are 17cm long with 15 cross slots, offering ample room for scope adjustments.
Final Thoughts:
Obviously we’re all limited by budget, but if you’re going to spend a lot of money on a nice shiny scope then your mounts should be taken seriously.
Tier One’s scope mounts are designed by shooters, for shooters, proudly made in Britain, the precision engineering is obvious.
With these mounts, you’ll have the confidence that your zero is on every time you take the rifle to the range, or out into the field. This is quality kit that we’re proud to stock and even happier to use ourselves.
